Here's how to get the Friendship Checker app on your Pokétch!

Pokémon are friends, not food!

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the fourth remakes of Pokémon games to pay homage to their original counterparts, which were full of exciting features to make engaging with your Pokémon more enjoyable. One of these features is the Pokétch, a proto-smartwatch with applications that every Trainer would find useful. Players could check the time, count their steps, and even check their friendship status with their Pokémon. Here's how to obtain the Friendship Checker app for your Pokétch.

How to get the Pokétch Friendship Checker app

  1. First, obtain the Pokétch in Jubilife City. A man will approach you and task you with finding three clowns around the city, each of whom hold a coupon. After obtaining three coupons, talk to the first man and receive your Pokétch.

  2. Head to Eterna City. You'll get there after defeating the Oreburgh Gym leader and heading north.

  3. Go to the Pokémon Center and speak to the woman dressed in pink. She'll comment on your Pokémon and install the Friendship Checker app on your Pokétch.

What can I do with the Pokétch Friendship Checker app?

You can open your Pokétch with the R button on your Nintendo Switch controller and press on the large button on the right to scroll through the apps. When you get to the Friendship Checker app, tap on the Pokémon you want to check in handheld mode, or move the cursor with the left analog stick and press A on the desired Pokémon. Hearts with spring forth from your Pokémon, indicating how friendly they are towards you.

While you won't see an explicit number indicating a friendship value, the more hearts, the better. A high friendship stat is necessary for certain Pokémon like Eevee to evolve into Espeon and Umbreon, so make sure you take care of your Pokémon, don't let them faint in battle, and give them items like Potions when they need one.

Friends to the end

The better your friendship with your Pokémon, the better your chances in battle. Treating your Pokémon the way you would treat your real friends can make your experience in Sinnoh even more enjoyable. Get out these and go on an adventure with your friends in this amazing game!
