iPhone 13 Pro demand outstripping supply by 15%, says analyst
"We continue to see delivery times for Apple's iPhone 13 Pro lengthen as we estimate right now demand is outstripping supply by roughly 15% heading into this holiday season."
What you need to know
- An analyst has warned of further iPhone shortages this Christmas.
- Wedbush's Daniel Ives warns that the supply of the iPhone 13 Pro is outstripping demand by some 15%.
- He suggests Apple could sell 80 million iPhone units in the current quarter.
As shared by PED Ives writes:
Heading into Black Friday we continue to see delivery times for Apple's iPhone 13 Pro lengthen as we estimate right now demand is outstripping supply by roughly 15% heading into this holiday season.
Ives said that despite the chip shortage and other supply issues Apple was seeing "tremendous demand" for the iPhone 13 and said Apple could sell upwards of 80 million iPhone units in the quarter, with the Pro driving up the average selling price. He says Apple could sell 40 million iPhones between Black Friday and Christmas alone, record holiday performance for the quarter. He continues:
We estimate in China alone there are roughly 15 million iPhone 13 upgrades for the December quarter as this key region remains a major source of strength for Apple heading into 2022 and beyond. While the stock has stagnated as the chip shortage has become the Grinch heading into Christmas for Apple with iPhone supply issues, we believe Cook & Co. have been able to get more iPhones into the retail channel over the past few weeks which is a step in the right direction with holiday season around the corner…
Ives, who is always bullish on Apple's fortunes and target share price, claims that Apple could sell "close to 100 million AirPod units" in 2022 thanks in part to its new AirPods 3, some of the best true wireless earbuds the company has released in recent years.
Above Avalon's Neil Cybart expressed doubt at this claim, however:
Apple is not going to sell 100M AirPods in one quarter anytime soon (he actually said in 2022 but that will be too high as well).— Neil Cybart (@neilcybart) November 16, 2021
With demand up and supply down, it really is going to be more difficult to get hold of an iPhone this holiday season. The best Black Friday Apple deals are already starting to appear, and there are some excellent ways you can get your hands on an iPhone through carriers or retailers this year.
