Facebook building its own city with 1,700 flats, a supermarket, hotel and offices
Welcome to the town that Zuck built.
Facebook is building its own town on a 59-acre plot of land next to its headquarters in Silicon Valley.
On site will be 1,700 apartments, a hotel, a supermarket and plenty of extra office space as well as other amenities.
It means employees, if they wish, will never have to leave the confines of Facebook’s property.
The community will be called Willow Park and Facebook has partnered with US firm Signature Development Group to present the proposed plans for the city.
And although Facebook is behind it, not all of the housing units will be explicitly for Facebook employees.
Alongside the supermarket and 193-room hotel will be cafes, restaurants and outdoor areas.
There will be 200,000 square feet of retail space surrounding a 1.5-acre town square.
The extra office space – of which there will be about 1.25 million square feet – will allow Facebook to employ an additional 3,400 employees.
Facebook first submitted an application for the city back in 2017 to redevelop the former ProLogis Menlo Science and Technology Park.
The company and the developers spent at least two years obtaining public comments about its plans for Willow Park.
