Apple says the company now supports some 1 million jobs in India, including employees and supply chain workers as well as app developers.

Apple's VP of Product Operations, Priya Balasubramaniam, spoke at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, as reported by The Hindu Business Line:

Apple's Vice-President of Product Operations, Priya Balasubramaniam, said that Apple supports around one million jobs in India, including the company's own employees, people engaged in the growing iOS app economy, and supply partners. She was speaking at the ongoing Bengaluru Tech Summit.

Balasubramaniam added that Apple hopes to invest significantly in the country to expand its reach and engage with local suppliers, having started making some of its best iPhones in the country over the last few years. She said "Apple had established its online store in India, offering a full range of the company's products and services directly to Indian customers. We are looking forward to expanding further with physical retail stores, too."

She also stated that Apple is helping transform manufacturing using new tech like AI and 3D printing:

"In milliseconds, we can capture product deviations. In the past workers needed to be on the factory floor to measure performance metrics. Now, with connectivity and data analytics, we can track these metrics in real-time from anywhere in the world. We can now develop predictive models that anticipate issues, and we can proactively implement corrective actions, without slowing productivity," she added.

She further stated that Apple is also working on a project in India that uses video machine learning to monitor stations remotely to increase productivity.

This week Apple started hiring for its first two stores set to open in the country, having opened its online store in India in September 2020.
