Apple continues its expansion into the world of original podcasts with the launch of Hooked, a show about an opioid addict becoming a prolific bank robber.
The new podcast comes from Campside Media, writes Deadline. That's the outfit behind the Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen series, a fact that suggests this could be another winner.
The story definitely sounds like it should be, at least.
The series explores the true story of Tony Hathaway, whose addiction to legally prescribed opioids led him to spiral from a top engineer to becoming one of the most prolific bank robbers in American history.
It is hosted by journalist and Campside Media founder Josh Dean and features three years worth of interviews with Hathaway, his family, law enforcement and others involved in the story. Dean exec produces alongside Vanessa Grigoriadis, Adam Hoff, Matt Shaer, and Mark McAdam.
This is the second original podcast Apple is reported to have in the works, with Deadline also reporting back in April that a podcast series based on Siegfried & Roy from Steven Leckart is also on the way.
Being an Apple Original, the new show will only be available in the Apple Podcasts app, although there is no suggestion that any money will change hands if you want to listen. Apple is far from the only company trying to snap up exclusive podcasts — it's something Spotify has been doing as well.
